Well, I’ve discovered several ways in which things are already progressing! Organizations across America are emphasizing awareness of the need for diversity, working towards increased or required computer science education in schools, and changing the hiring process to be more inclusive.
Last year, Microsoft published a corporate blog post in support of House Bill 1813, which would make computer science education in the public school system a statewide matter. Other tech companies have asserted their influence in similar ways, raising awareness about the need for computer science education and supporting organizations that provide it. I’d like to highlight two organizations specifically that are bringing computer science education to underrepresented minorities: Code.org and Girls Who Code.
